Dawn Kozarian is a Board Certified (NCC) Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC). She is also an ACT (Acceptance and Commitment Therapy) informed therapist who utilizes a psychodynamic approach. (ACT is a researched based therapy that is particularly effective for adults that struggle with anxiety and/or depression.) Since the inception of her private practice in 2006, Dawn has applied ACT principles with individuals struggling with anxiety, depression, trauma, relationships, divorce, or other life changes and has had much success with it.
Having studied gender issues for years, having men in her life that she deeply respects, Dawn has developed skill sets specifically to help men increase their emotional awareness and improve their relationships. This passion drove her to write a book with Mark James. Men have found this writing particularly helpful in raising their awareness of not only the woman’s culture, but that they too have a culture that has impacted them. In a society that often does not seem to honor the couple relationship, she has an interest in making that union strong. She understands on a professional level, and from a personal perspective, the challenges that come with marriage, divorce, raising children, and blended families.
In the past, Dawn has been a special education teacher for children with emotional behavioral challenges, a home manager, and has worked for Children’s Bureau as a counselor and educational liaison. Dawn also has training in applying EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing) for adults who are trying to move on after trauma.
Dawn is a member of the American Counseling Association (ACA), National Board of Certified Counselors Association (NBCC), and the Association for Contextual Behavioral Science (ACBS).
With the exception of I. U. Health and Com Psych, Dawn is a private paid therapist working with adults and couples through virtual telehealth sessions.
Through an open and respectful environment and various awareness and acceptance exercises of the stuff you struggle with Dawn guides you to increasingly make choices that move you towards your valued life. Dawn is an ethical and compassionate counselor, who acts as a confidential and careful listener holding her clients in very high regard. If you are interested in setting up a session, you can contact Dawn directly.
“You are such a gifted therapist; I sing your praises all the time. God only knows what state I’d be in today if I hadn’t found you, so thank you.”
